Small, rural towns have been on the endangered species list the last few years.

But some of these towns have risen to the challenge and started a renaissance of sorts. I've been to a few of these places, but I've only read about others. I thought 2018 would be a good time to venture off the beaten path and see what the rest of Nebraska is up to.

Timeline and Agenda

The dates and agenda are tentative as of December 2017 and open for adjustment as people express interest and make suggestions.

Friday, March 23 | 2pm - Saturday, March 24 | 10pm

First stop will be Ord. Spend the night in Grand Island. Crane Migration in the morning. Lunch in Grand Island. Visit to Stuhr Museum for the rest of the day and then back to Omaha.

Scratchtown Brewing | Ord, NE
Putting a tiny town on the map. I'm not a drinker, but this is one of the main reasons for this city's growth and I would love to see its influence on this town.

Crane Migration | Alda, NE
Nebraska is known as destination to see the crane migration. I think I've seen it once in my life, but never from the central part of their path. Could be kind of cool.

Budget

2 days, 1 night. 

Estimated costs: less than $200

Costs will include gas, hotel, museum admission, food, and whatever else you decide to spend money on.

I'll have a better idea once dates are set and an estimated number of people coming. Hotel costs and amount of cars coming will affect this. I can fit 4 people in my car, but we will split gas costs. I will buy each car snacks though! What's a road trip without snacks!

To be clear, I'm not charging anyone any money for this. I'm making plans and inviting people to come with me. 

Why

If you let it, travel changes perspective; it can teach you about the world and remove you from your own head. 

I've traveled a lot solo and decided it was time to invite others onto this journey with me. I picked a couple destinations close to home because there are cool things in the Midwest and the culture that has shaped you matters. I picked an American road trip, so that my friends could meet in a new location. There's more work in that for everyone, but the best things take work, right? And then I have an international location on the list, because my passport needs more stamps.
